deved2_1 - my first real level

Postby DevEd2 » 06 Mar 2012 23:20

I am working on a new level. It is a rainy plain, with many hazards. However, it is not finished. I attached what I have so far. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Poll ended??? I was just going to vote!!
Whatever, It's OK, but...
It sure could use a few more things, such as a BG. (And maybe a foreground)
The music that you picked is waaay to overused as well :!:
And sub-levels are a very good thing to add: They give a different scenery and music, making it much more fun.

But I thought I used a BG and a FG... :?

Secondly, I do not have the latest music pack (as of this post), so in the next version, I will get it and use land_4.

I might add a couple sublevels later. You mean like a secret area with coins/powerups/1-ups, or maybe something like you have to navigate through a sewer maze after you enter that pipe?

Hmm, maybe the sewer isn't such a bad idea! Next chance I get, I think I'll start working on it.

BTW Do you think I should add some sort of boss battle at the end of the level?

Also, I'm gonna reset the poll so you can vote. No thanks needed. ;)

Nah, it seems more of a normal level. Maybe when scripting gets implemented (IF it ever does) then maybe.

There's been some progress in implementing scripting, as you can see here.

EDIT: I really wish that bosses didn't immediately end the level. Perhaps they could spawn a door and a level exit along with a LOT of goldpieces (or waffles according to the latest Git) when they are defeated. Oh wait - scripting can do that. Never mind.

You can configure bosses to not automatically end the level in the level editor. Scripting will allow doors to appear on their deaths.
If you've submitted a Release level and I haven't added to the level repository in over a weak, I probably missed it and you should PM me if you want it uploaded.

BTW I am currently working on the sewer level.

...well, not right now, I'm in school. But I'll post it when it's done, as well as an updated version of the main level.

Thx. Any particular feedback?

BTW I am away from SMC right now because I am sooooo far behind in science, and my usual computer (the one with SMC, dang it!) has been confiscated until I am caught up. So, needless to say, I am not working on this level. (If you didn't figure that out, u r a n00b!)

1. I can't see the image because of proxy issues.
2. I may be getting my normal computer back soon on one condition: [rage]I'M NOT ALLOWED TO BRING IT TO CLASSES!!!!!!![/rage]

LULZ, first world problems.

And his image isn't available because it's a 404, not due to your proxy. =P

Just had a chance to play it. Dying at the very end with the door just in reach is annoying. I think it's because of this error:

Code: Select all
Error loading image : /usr/local/share/smc/pixmaps/blocks/extra/metal_block.png

It gets printed into the console a number of times. That files doesn't exist in the latest version of SMC (I think it's been renamed).

Otherwise, pretty fun!

Oh, that's a block I made.

Try unzipping this into your pixmaps folder. When you do that, the problem should be fixed.

EDIT: Just thought of a puzzle that would involve having players search the Internet for this file before they could continue. Oh well...

I'll bite. If you delete the file and post the puzzle, I won't download the one you've already posted.
